DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL FAIRHAVEN LAKE 2025
Ever wondered what to do on a Saturday. Bet dragon boat racing was not high on the list. Just thought this event may be something l could get a few photos from. What l like to do when covering an event is to try, if possible, to get their early, take few images of the setting up process so to give a story of an event and follow it through, not necessarily to the end though. In this case 6 hours was enough. The music was too loud for my liking, the ears had had enough. Apart from that, I really had an enjoyable day.
The event its self was well run, really organised by RaceTheDragon.com. Hats off to them. The event was to raise funds for the BlueSkiesCharity.co.uk who support in patient care for hospitals in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas on the Fylde coast. As l remember there were 17 teams, each with 17 eager participants. Each dragon boat had 16 crew engaged with the job of using paddles to move the boat forward, or reverse in some cases. The remaining crew member beat a drum to aid the timing of placing the paddles into the water to gain a rhythm to power the boat forward to its fastest potential.
I tried different vantage points around Fairhaven Lake to give a visual picture of the whole event. From the boarding and alight of the dragon boats on the temporary jetty, the pushing off, travelling down to the starting position, and the start and finish lines. This, together with a few other photos in and around the lake.
Hope you enjoy looking through all photos.
